carlsbad caverns, NM

the caverns are huge.  the main trail (1mile) is called the big room.  the big room itself is a limestone chamber about 4000 ft long, and 625 ft wide.  at no point of the trail does it escape you how big the room really is.  there are 2 main rock formation  stalagmites and stalactites.  there are active ones that are very glossy and others that are dried up.
